Self motivation is a gateway to self esteem and success. It is difficult to maintain for the simple reason that negativity is everywhere, which makes you insecure and kills creativity. Good ideas are criticized by the negativity of others who do not share our goals and ideals. It is easy to get discouraged, but the self motivated person gains from it and turns it into something positive. Check out these ideas to keep your motivation high.
Understand yourself; your self concept. You have strengths and weaknesses unique to you. Play on them. Assign yourself things you enjoy which will provide a steady stream of small accomplishments. The result will be the motivation to proceed and also tackle the bigger, less enjoyable tasks.
Recognize success and reward yourself! Once you have set those tasks and put them to paper, review them each day and cross off the ones you completed for an instant pat on the back. The feeling of accomplishment makes you want to do more! Otherwise, you will be left droning from task to never ending task, unrewarded, feeling dread for the next day.
Big projects are daunting so break them down into smaller tasks which can be completed swiftly, motivating you to move on to the next part. The big project will get done quicker and you will feel successful.
Mingle with like minded folks. Even people with the best intentions can suck the energy right out of you and your creative self. You cannot change your Sister's negativity and lack of imagination, but you can choose the role she plays in your life. Find someone with common goals and interests to share ideas with and keep each other excited. It goes a long way.
Let go of anger. Mistakes happen and mess up the best plans. The only way to succeed is to manage them and move on.
Take care of yourself. Eat right and exercise. A healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand. Too often we neglect or put off our health plans when pursuing success in other areas.
As difficult as it may be to maintain self motivation, it is also very simple because you don't have to depend on anyone but you to get it done. So make the decision now to stay positive and motivated and you will be thrilled with the results.
