What qualities do you look for in choosing from among all the tubal reversal doctors? That's the question some women want to ask when they begin their search for a tubal reversal doctor. Below we are going to address some of the qualities that made women choose the doctor they chose to do their tubal ligation reversal. We will ask the questions you should be asking yourself and your doctor.

The first thing you want to know about is his knowledge of this type of surgery. What about his educational and training background? What schools did he or she attend? What training has he had? And who was he trained under? You have doctors who have done their medical school, internship training and normal residency and have never seen a tubal reversal done. Even doctors who specialized in reproductive endocrinology would be very lucky to see a tubal reversal during their training. Since most insurance doesn't cover it, many hospitals don't perform the surgery very often and this is where doctors do their residencies. So, has yours ever been trained in it? Has he even seen one done during his training?

Next we need to ask about his experience. How often has your potential doctor performed this surgery? Is it something she has done like maybe twelve times in the last five years? Or do you want a doctor who does the surgery every week day for years and has seen just about anything that can come up? Who do you think is going to be better at it and have the most experience to deal with your particular situation?

What techniques does your doctor use to insure to the best of his ability that your tubes will be open once the surgery is done? Does he just "eyeball" the alignment of the tubes and then do a dye test afterward to see if they are open? Or does he use a stint to line up the tubes to be sure they are open even before he begins suturing the tubes together? You need to think if you want to take a chance on paying for the surgery and not even being sure the job gets done correctly. How invasive will his surgery technique be into your body? How large are the cuts he will make?

How about his communications? Does he provide lines of communication to answer all your questions? How easy is it to talk to him or his staff? Do you feel you are being heard and listened to? Can you get into contact with any of his previous tubal reversal patients to get a recommendation? What do others, including his patients, say about him?

Cost - Even if the result of your tubal reversal is priceless, whether it's that new baby you want so much or the relief from your post tubal ligation syndrome symptoms, cost is still a factor. Unless you are very fortunate with your health insurance for tubal reversal, chance are you will have to pay for the surgery yourself one way or another. Prices vary widely for this surgery from a few thousand up to and beyond $20,000. So how much will your surgeon cost you?

What kind of statistics does your doctor collect and keep? Does this information allow you to know his tubal reversal success rates? Not for all tubal reversals but just for his own surgeries. What are your chances for pregnancy after tubal reversal from this doctor? Will he provide this information to you? Is it readily available?

These points above are a good start on the things you need to think about when looking for your surgeon. They are all part of what goes to make up a good and positive experience for you. There are more factors to be considered as well, but begin with these. Find the one surgeon, from all the tubal reversal doctors, who will best fit all these areas of concern and you will have a better experience.
