With your pregnancy and the birth of your baby, came great joy. Oh, how happy you and your loved ones were when you had your little "baby bump". When you first laid eyes on your little darling, everyone was elated.

But, now, that the novelty of the experience is starting to wear off, you, and maybe most of the people close to you want to know..."When are you going to lose some weight" Some may even ask you when you are going to start some type of postnatal exercise program or routine.

Women who have had babies generally know about the benefits of incorporating postnatal exercise into your life after your baby is born. But, keep into perspective that how, when, and what you do is 100% your business and it's a personal decision.

While you weigh the prospect of adding postnatal exercise into your daily life, you should start a routine when you are ready. Don't let the following factors force you to rush into it or to make your decision for you:

1. You feel pressure in the workplace about your weight or size. It's true that you may look a little different now. Your body just went through a major altering experience. Your co-workers may expect your recovery to be like those of others that have gone out on maternity leave and returned looking like they had just spent months at a spa. That may not be your reality. But, take it in stride. Don't push yourself to conform just for the sake of pleasing them.

2. Other family members make you feel bad. Yes, they knew you when you were a teen and could fit into a size 2, but now you are definitely not a 2. Well, don't they realize that you are a NEW mother.

People will often make comments that they don't realize can be hurtful. You are not a rubberband. You may not just "snap back" into your pre-pregnancy shape the week after your baby is born, and that is ok.You didn't gain all of your pregnancy weight in a "snap", and you shouldn't expect things to go back in a "snap".

3. Everyone is a critic. From your other children to maybe even your husband to the clerk at the grocery store...everyone has an opinion on the new you.

While these can be motivators, you should not let them be the only reason that you start a postnatal exercise program. Postnatal exercise has benefits that far exceed simply pleasing others.

Postnatal exercise can help you to look better and feel better for you! By doing postnatal exercise, you will reduce stress, increase your energy, build up your self-confidence, speed up your metabolism to burn more calories faster, and get back into pre-pregnancy shape.

Oh, it will also help to stop the mouth of the critics. But, don't do it just for them. Incorporate postnatal exercise into your life because it is something that YOU want to do for YOU!
