15. What is hypnosis?
What is hypnosis? "Hypnosis" refers to the power that words and ideas have when we surround these words and ideas with our complete attention. A hypnotist or an operator delivers words and ideas. You don't need any special qualifications to deliver words that will change your life or help change your subject's life. Hypnosis, the power that words have when surrounded by one's complete attention is as old as the spoken word itself. You may know PHD's that work as hypnotherapists and you may know door to door salesmen that use hypnosis in their job. The truth is, no academic title or course completion certificate will ever tell you how good a hypnotist is. The nice part about it is that with a little study you can be a very effective hypnotist. What to Expect from Your Subject What do you expect from your subject? You expect your subject to give you the same support that you are giving them. Never take advantage of your subject and always show concern for their safety. Remember that your subject trusts you with the most important part of his/her existence. You subject trusts you with his brain and his identity. Usually, your subject will tell you something secretive that will never be revealed to anyone else. Give your subject your undivided attention and you will be successful. Question: What do I need to begin hypnotizing? Answer: You need confidence in your abilities to hypnotize. Question: How to I get the confidence if I have never hypnotized anyone before? Answer: You have to fake it until you make it! In order for you to become successful in hypnotizing other people you must have confidence in your abilities to hypnotize. The more you display this confidence in you words and mannerisms, the easier it will be to hypnotize others and the more fun you will have as a hypnotist. Remember this always: You must have confidence in yourself as a hypnotist. You must keep that confidence during each and every hypnosis session.

17. Hymns Vs Choruses - Finding The Right Balance In Church Worship Music
For three years while I was a worship pastor almost every week someone from the congregation would bring up the issue of Hymn's vs. Choruses. Some members wanted more hymns, some wanted more choruses, some wanted hymns sung like choruses and some wanted less hymns and less "old" chorus songs so that we could do more "new" stuff. It didn't seem like it was possible to make anyone happy. In fact, it was difficult to make anyone happy. I would try to adjust the mix of the music and try tried to educate members of my congregation. It just didn't seem to matter... That was until I figured out that the issue wasn't really about hymns or choruses (at least for most people). The debate about these two styles of music was simply a way of voicing other thoughts and issues that were weighing on people's hearts. I came to realize that in almost every case, when people voiced their dissent about hymns or choruses they had another issue that needed to be addressed. Here were the five most common issues that I found... 1. Congregation members wanted to feel that they were valued and that the things that mattered to them mattered to the leadership of the church. They wanted to be heard and they wanted to feel that their opinion, likes, dislikes and feelings were important to someone else. Many of the older members of the congregation didn't want to feel forgotten while younger members wanted to feel that they had some say in the way that the church worked too. 2. There is an incredible amount of selfishness in the Church. Many church members are looking for a church that will "meet their needs" above all else. This tends to produce a consumeristic mentality that leads individuals to a place of evaluation instead of participation. Often the framework of the hymns vs. choruses debate needs to be reframed so that members realize that it is not "all about me" but instead it is "all about Him". 3. The debate over the style of music for a church is often more about change and change process than it is about music. Change is painful and almost nobody likes it. Sometimes as church leadership, we forget that most individuals struggle with change, especially if it is rapid. Congregation members want to feel comfortable when they come to church and change can make things comfortable. Often if the issue of hymns vs. choruses is raised as a tangible example of resistance or feelings of uneasiness with change. 4. Although there will always be a few people that love to complain about everything, it is important to remember to give people the benefit of the doubt when they raise concerns about hymns vs. choruses. Often, when people advocate for more of one or other style of music they are genuinely worried about the worship services being relevant and ministering to a specific audience. Amazingly, two people who sit next to each other in the pews can view the target audience of the church as two completely different groups of individuals. A leadership who casts vision well and has a clearly defined target in mind can really help to alleviate this problem. Many individuals who may have a preference for Hymns or choruses are willing to put aside their personal likes and dislikes in order to better minister to a different generation. This is one of the things that makes the body of Christ strong. 5. Sometimes it is not about the music at all but instead is about the theology. It is tough sometimes to tell if this is the real issue for someone or just a way for them to reinforce their point. Either way, both hymns and choruses should be evaluated carefully to ensure that they reflect sound doctrine and fit with the teachings of God's word. Churches that choose to do less hymns will often need to work harder to ensure that their music is not only doctrinally sound but is also theologically rich. Leading worship can be a hard job. However, understanding where people are coming from when they bring up this issue can be even harder. These are five things that I noticed when dealing with the issue of hymns vs. choruses at my Church. Perhaps you will see them at your church as well.

18. Choosing A New Church - Five Things to Remember
You have probably heard it before, but just in case, I will tell you again. There is no such thing as the perfect church. In fact, if you ever think that you have found the perfect church just remind yourself and it won't be perfect anymore after you join. I know this sounds harsh but the truth is, we are all sinners in need of grace. No person apart from Jesus Christ is perfect, and this means that every church is filled with imperfect people. However, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't look for a quality community of believers to worship with each week. If you are looking for a new church, here are five things to remember... 1. Find a place that teaches God's word. Many churches today will provide great sermons that are nice to listen to and even a little bit uplifting. However, if you want to grow in your faith, find a church that opens up the bible and actually digs in. Look for a body that consistently teaches from God's word and challenges you to take the principles from the bible and put them in action. 2. Find a place where you feel comfortable and welcome. There are some churches where you can walk through the door and you are greeted by a dozen different people who are eager to get to know you. In other places you wonder if you have the plague and everyone is afraid to get too close. You are going to want to find a body where you feel welcome and where you can develop relationships with other believers. This will help you grow roots so that worship doesn't just happen on Sunday's. 3. Find a body that knows where it is going and how it is going to get there. If you find a church that has a clear mission and vision you will know it right away. Everything that they do has a purpose and you will feel that you are part of something bigger than yourself. Churches that have clear purpose are unified, active and have an energy that makes them appealing to almost anyone including non believers. 4. Look for a place where you can serve and be involved. Whether you love to teach bible studies, mow the lawn or cook meals, it is important that you find a place where you can use your gifts. Look for a place where there is stuff going on that you can get involved in. If you are gifted in a certain area then find out what type of opportunities that are offered for service. Find a place to plug in and make the body your home. 5. Find a church that makes evangelism and community service a priority. Too many churches are constantly caught looking inward while completely ignoring their communities and the lost people all around them. Ask how many people have come to know Christ in the past year. You might be surprised how little this number is in most churches. Also ask what the body is doing or planning on doing to reach out to their community. Churches with a passion for evangelism and outreach are easy to spot when you ask the right questions. Armed with these five criteria, you should be able to find a body of believers where you fit and where you can grow. Just remember, there is no such thing as the perfect church. There will always be something that you don't like or someone that rubs you the wrong way. Still, there is nothing better than being involved in a good church.

19. Revival and Godly Sorrow
Wisdom calls, she lifts up her voice like a trumpet - can we hear her: "The last shall be first, and the first last." She is to be preferred over pure gold - have we sought her: "Everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted." By her presidents rule and judges administer justice - have we found her: "He must increase, but I must decrease." Ponder wisdom:
