Secrets can ruin a marriage.

In part one of this series, I am going to talk about financial secrets between a couple.

Many people keep financial secrets, according to author and radio host, Dave Ramsey. Those secrets can be a sign of or cause problems within a marriage.

A lack of communication and cooperation in a marriage is the case whether or not a spouse is keeping small items a secret or accumulating a $50,000 credit card debt.

Having control of one's finances is important. Often, if one spouse feels they are in an out-of-control financial environment, they will often spend money to "rebel".

Financial secrets can happen in many ways. Often a spouse in a blended family will try and protect their child from the new "not-so-nice" stepmother or stepfather by handing out money. A spouse can also keep financial secrets by giving money to a child without telling their partner.

Getting to the bottom of the reason why the financial secret exists is critical to begin solving the problem. It's also important to discuss the mistake with your partner. Being honest will clear the air and allow the healing process to begin.

Revealing your secret online anonymously is a good place to start if you are not ready to reveal it to your spouse. You have to own up to your mistake in order to come to terms fully with your issue. Although hard to do sometimes, admitting your mistake to your partner is the next big step. If you can allow yourself to admit to the mistake, your mind will be freer to forgive yourself and to heal. You will not be disappointed if you go into your own mind to find the answers. In order to live a life of happiness and peace, you will need to shine the light on your truths.
