Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. It comprises twenty four provinces, Crimea – an autonomous republic and two urban districts which are treated separately: Kiev which is the capital and Sevastopol. The result of the orange revolution which took place in 2004, is that Ukraine has got the status of semi-presidential republic. Now the system of government in this country has a quite interesting structure: the power is redistributed between several branches of power. Ukraine has a common boundary with ten countries. These countries are Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia. The country is mostly treeless plain with mountains in the Crimea and not high Carpathian Mountains. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and separate it into two nearly equal parts. Owing to the river Ukraine has the most of its hydroelectric energy. Every winter there is much snow there but the climate is quite mild and temperature is not very low. The summers are wet with temperatures frequently going about 35 Centigrade. Nevertheless, the weather is dry and sunny most of the time.

Thanks to favorable terms, Ukraine is known for its quality soils and significantly developed agriculture. The perfectly developed agricultural sphere allows Ukraine to export their products to a number of countries. It exports sugar, corn, vegetables, etc. Kiev is the metropolis of Ukraine and the biggest city of this country. It dates its history since the 5th century. It started as a little trading town and developed into the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern part of Europe. The decrease of development of Kiev was produced by the Mongolian incursion in the 13th century, the city was fully destroyed for a very long period. Significant impact on the development was produced by the creation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic helped Kiev to regain prominence. In 2001 there lived 2,611,300 people in Kiev (census data). Women constituted 53 percents and males 47 percents. The majority of population is Ukrainians and Russians, but there is a huge amount of different ethnic groups which live there for several hundreds years. In the second part of 20th century its population increased significantly as a result of improvement of real estate building in that city. During the time of the sovereignty Kiev has been changed a lot. Now there are a lot of world-class luxury hotels and chic restaurants among old buildings of the Soviet epoch.

The economics of Ukraine is developing at stable rate. The growth is also resulted in emoluments that have also rose in real value about 20 percents per year from 2000 till 2006. Ukraine is also going to become a participant of WTO after it endorses the agreement.
