New York City is situated in the North Eastern part of the United States of America, in the state of New York, along the Hudson River. It is built around three islands - Manhattan, Staten Island, and Long Island. It includes five boroughs - The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.
Located at the mouth of the Hudson River, it lies on the eastern Atlantic coast, which is a natural harbor. It is the most populated city in the United States. Being situated on a natural harbor, the city has flourished as a trading city.
The City of New York is situated midway between Boston and Washington D.C and on the north eastern direction of the United States of America. Owing to its significant location on the natural harbor of Hudson River, this city has developed rapidly in trading activities. New York city has been basically constructed on the three islands namely Long island, Staten island and Manhattan island.
New York City consists of five boroughs. They are The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten and Queens Island, and they are located within the five counties called New York County, Kings County, Richmond County, Bronx County and Queens County. New York is the most thickly populated city in the United States of America. Several land marks and neighborhoods around the city are popular throughout the world.
Millions of immigrants who had arrived during the late 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries were amazed with the greeting they received from the Statue of Liberty. Wall Street in Lower Manhattan serves as a home to the Stock Exchange activities. There are innumerable tall buildings in New York City. The former twin towers of World Trade Center, and The Empire State building are famous throughout the world.
There are more than 40 million people from around the world that visit New York City each year. Some of the major attractions this city offers are the Empire State Building, Elis Island, Broadway theatre productions, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Washington Square Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Garden, and Luxury shopping along Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue.
Early 21st century saw the increase in Asian and Latin American immigrants which also opened new venues such as the Silicon Valley. New York City is also known for being the global center for the media and publishing industry. Home of the television industry it houses the headquarters of 4 major American broadcast networks.
Film industry is another area where New York City plays a major role. In fact New york is the second largest film hub in America. Being one of the important commercial centers of America, New York sees a variety of trade activities going on in and around.
The Broadway theatres were also home to a new form of stage, being the musicals. New York City is also the second largest centre in the film industry. Fifth and Madison Avenues house some major fashions houses and some of popular shopping destinations. Being on the list of most favorite city to be visited, New York has a lot to offer to the tourist. Times Square, Empire State Building, Ellis Island, the Bronx Zoo, Central Park and Metropolitan Museum of Art are some of the popular tourist spots.
