Beagle Paper Training Procedures | Dogs

Regardless of the age of your beagle you always want your dog to either be housebroken or on it's way to adopting the behavior. It can be very frustrating when you keep trying everything the vet or the breeder told you to do and still your beagle keeps going in the house. Remain patient and do not strike the animal ever. Some people recommend a swat on the backside as a reminder to your dog to not do something but striking your dog is the worst thing you can do. Also avoid locking your dog in a pen if it has a problem knowing where and when to go.

Beagle paper training may be your only alternative but you should always make sure that it is necessary to take that route. A visit to the vet should be the first step in the desperation of trying to housebreak your beagle. If the vet determines that there are no physical problems preventing housebreaking then it is time to move on to other solutions.

Prior to beagle paper training there are a couple of other methods you can try to get your beagle to do their business outside. If you have a high level of dedication to the problem, and you should, then you set aside a 48-hour period where you and someone else can take the beagle outside every hour to the spot you want them to use.

When they do their business in that spot then offer a great deal of positive reinforcement. After forty-eight straight hours they should get the idea of what you are trying to teach them.

Another method you can try is to simply watch your beagle for a couple of days non-stop. If they start to give signs that they are going to relieve themselves inside then tell them no in a strong one-word command and then take them outside immediately. When they are done outside use positive reinforcement. A couple of days of this should work as well.

If beagle paper training is your only option then lay several layers of papers in the area that the dog uses for their personal toilet and try and surround this area with a pen. When the dog uses the papers then use positive reinforcement. After a while they will know they can use the papers and they will use them every time. Gradually move the papers towards the door and gradually put parts of the papers outside and a smaller part of the papers inside.

Keep gradually moving the paper area outside until there is not enough inside for the dog to go on. The dog should then ask you to go outside. Once the dog has learned to go on the papers outside you still have the problem of teaching the dog to hold it until you get home and then going on a certain spot in the yard.

This should always be a last resort, as it does not really train the dog to wait to go outside. It only trains the dog to go on papers outside. Don't forget that you still have more training to do after they start going on the outside papers. When you clean up the papers always leave some soiled papers in the new pile so they know to use them.
