Ellie Drake is a world-famous motivational speaker, but she came from humble roots and met many challenges on her road to fame. Ellie grew up in Iran, a country that told her she could have no dreams and to give up. She didn't give up, though. Nearly two decades ago, she came to the United States knowing no English at all to live the American Dream.
It had always been Ellie's dream to come to America. It was a free land very different from her own. As a child, Ellie taught herself one new English word everyday by reading from a dictionary while she walked to school. Of course she couldn't pronounce the words she was learning, but she was at least able to familiarize herself with the language.
Ellie began the first day of the rest of her life when her parents finally brought her to America. She knew that with her inner passion, and with America's liberties, she would be unstoppable on her quest for success.
To have success, you have to light your passions on fire and let them burn into your heart. Success and passion are absolutely not the same things, although they seem to go hand in hand. Being successful in your job doesn't mean you're passionate about your job, but making a career out of something you're passionate about is bound to bring you success.
Ellie Drake was so successful in her new American schools that she fulfilled her parents' dream of becoming a doctor. They wanted her to be a doctor so that she could make enough money to care for them when they got old. Ellie didn't enjoy being a doctor, though. She wanted more from life.
Ellie wanted more than anything to be a public speaker and entrepreneur, so one day she confidently gave her diploma to her parents and told them she didn't want to be a doctor anymore. She knew her passion would carry her through the tough days ahead. She told herself many times, "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."
Passion is great, but there are always bills to pay. How can you follow you passions without losing everything? Ellie feels that's the wrong attitude to have. Your focus must be on your passions, because that's what will make you money. If you're focused on money, you can't be focused on how to make money.
Ellie started out with debt like many of us do. When she left school, she was under $150,000 of student loan debt. On top of that, she had spent $115,000 on credit card purchases. Passion is what led her through, and today, along with BraveHeart Productions, she empowers women and executives nationwide to follow their passions and live out their own American Dream.
