In the past several years, the world of pay per click advertising has changed. Google's changes in policies mean that you can't just put a huge number of keywords into an ad campaign without thought anymore. At least, you can't do this if you still want to turn a profit.
Doing this sort of thing today will result in most of your keywords being deactivated, or they'll be active, but expensive. Bid prices on basic keywords have gone up, so you'll have to pay attention to the ones you choose if you want an effective campaign.
The good news is that a little attention will result in a better chance of success. If you know why Google behaves in the way that it does and you choose your keywords appropriately, you'll stand a good chance of making a profit.
Google makes its money through advertising. If viewers believe that the ads on Google are worth clicking, they make money. That means that they want to make sure all the ads on their site are legitimate.
For this reason Google is continuously working on quality. Getting rid of false information, spam, and worthless sites is their goal. Unfortunately many PPC sites fall into these categories. Be sure that Google views you as a worthy site with good ads, so that you can succeed.
How do you do this? You can achieve lower costs and higher quality by adding some extras to your site. In fact it will only take a few more pages to make your website look good to Google.
Useful additions to your site include; a separate privacy page, an "About Us" page and a list of terms and conditions. Your quality score will increase considerably if you make these additions. A contact page is very important as far as Google is concerned.
These changes may not seem very significant, but they will do wonders for your ranking in the search engines and greatly improve your PPC campaign. Another thing that will help your site is to have an XML sitemap.
An XML sitemap is basically a directory of site contents. Having one of these allows Google to easily see your site and be able to access it. You may have to pay for this but you will get a good return for your investment by saving as much as 35% on your bids.
Impressing Google with your site and obeying their rules will do a lot to help your campaign. In fact you can test your keywords yourself by doing a search for them.
Then, check out related terms and see what the copy and meta tags on competitors' sites look like. While it's a bad idea to directly copy these, you can use them for inspiration. Every little bit of real content you can add to your site will help you look a lot better in Google's eyes, lowering your costs and increasing your chances of profit!
