Create a wine cellar at home

Collecting wine is a pastime for many people and most connoisseurs have wine cellars in their homes with hundreds of red and white varietals to choose from. Even if you have a small home with no space for a proper wine cellar, you can still create this effect in a part of your home with the correct wine accessories and wine racks.

Wine storage racks come is all different shapes and sizes and are made from various different materials. You get metal wine racks for a more modern feel and then if you want to create an old world French or Italian feel you can choose the wood wine racks for your home. Wine cabinets are also a great way to collect wines, but in such a way that will fit into the rest of your home. This is also better if you have small children who can pull the bottle out of the racks.

The first thing you will need to do to create a wine cellar effect in your home is to make it cozy. Wine cellars are always underground and are therefore warm (which is optimum for the preservation of good red and white wine), small, and filled with wine storage racks. Find a place in your home that will work. It might be a small office area, or little nook under a staircase or even in a sectioned off part of your lounge. You should get some wine cabinets or fix the metal wine racks or wood wine racks to the walls. If you can, paint the walls in a warm sandy color to represent the wine cellars underground and you can even use an effect to create stones.

After you have made your little area and filled the walls with wine racks, you will have to add some atmosphere. As wine cellars are dark, add some lighting with small wrought iron wall lights. For a more modern look, use some very contemporary designs and even choose a different color for the walls – perhaps a dark maroon or forest green. You must add a table and some chairs so that your guests can sit with you and enjoy some wine tasting evenings. For an old traditional look, use a wooden bench or table and some wrought iron chairs and for a modern wine cellar you can use metal chairs and table. Remember to treat the wood that you use, as you will undoubtedly have some spillage once in a while.

This is all you need to create your cellar effect and after you have done that, you will just need to fill your wine cabinet or wine racks with some excellent wines and get some wine accessories like fancy corkscrews and glasses to finish it all off. Invite some guests around and have fun with your wine tasting and dinner parties. It will be quite exciting to say to your guests, “I’m just going to get some wine in my wine cellar.”
