There are two destructive things that occur most often to a home and those are fires or floods. Both of these events damage a house or leave little that can be recovered in the harshest cases. Even when there is a small event of one of these events, it can be expensive to restore and get a house back to what it was.

When there is major damage to a residence because of one of these events, the first thing that should be done is have the living space inspected by a qualified person. A house that is damaged because of fire can be unstable in affected places and be terribly dangerous even after the fire is over. If a residence has been flooded drastically for a while, it should be scrutinized for mold growth and affected floor or wall structures too.

Once you have concluded that the residence is not hazardous to go into, you may begin clearing out everything. The family adults will probably want to enter the dwelling place and remove whatever you think is savable. Many other less affected belongings like furniture and rugs, may need to be taken out for deodorizing resulting from a fire or to stop any further mold contamination from water. This can make working in the dwelling place more accessible if there are no unneeded objects in anyone's way.

After the things are removed that you are going to keep, it is time to start getting rid of whatever is ruined. Sometimes, renting a dumpster and getting it brought to your home can be the easiest answer when there is a lot to be disposed of. If it is not that much stuff, then a pick up truck or trailer might be enough room. After the damaged items are removed from the dwelling place, you will be able to assess the damage to the floors, walls, and ceilings.

It may be necessary to take out even more sheet rock, wall studs, and flooring that can be damaged by a flood if the mold contamination is large enough. Mold from flooding must be completely destroyed because it can cause all kinds of health related problems if it is not and it will keep growing back The last thing you want is to replace any woodwork and sheet rock and then have mold growing back behind it. Letting a professional do the job can be the best solution when the destruction of mold damage is on a big scale.

One of the biggest problems to solve when a dwelling place has been fixed because of a fire is the repulsive stink. All of the surviving carpets will have to be cleaned and deodorized. The other floor surfaces, walls, and ceilings will have to be cleaned thoroughly with a deodorizing cleaner also.

If you can, get some clean air up in the attic and arrange open packages of baking soda in selected areas to aid in absorbing the odor and enact the same thing for the basement. If this still does not kill the odor, you might need to call a skilled cleaning team for the deodorizing to get more adequate results.
