We all have read the nutrition labels and know how important macronutrients are to our life. After all, without carbohydrates, protein, and fats we wouldn't be able to have energy. However, there is one macronutrient that serves a greater purpose than to be used as fuel, and that is protein.

Protein is different from other macronutrients because it is composed of small chains of nitrogen. These chains are divided into even smaller chains called amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and thus your muscle. Remember that our muscles are 70% water, 20% protein, 5% fat, 5% carbs.

Because these amino acids help to build lean muscle, it is important to consume a lot of them when you are trying to get a better physique. This is why whey protein is so important. Whey protein digests within a half and hour and contains all of your essential amino acids. In addition, whey protein is very cheap and it tastes swell as well.

The best time to take whey protein is immediately post workout. When you exercise, you deplete your muscles of glycogen and break your muscle tissues down. To adapt to this stress, your body becomes more sensitive to insulin - the hormone responsible for shuffling nutrients to your muscles.

When insulin is released, triggered by a simple carbohydrate drink or meal, you should then drink whey protein. Whey protein will get to your muscles very quickly and immediately begin to repair the damage. This means that you can recover faster, and get results more quickly.

So, how safe is whey protein? Unlike most supplements, there is little supporting evidence that suggests that whey protein is bad for you. In fact, there have only been positive benefits such as a better immune system and muscle recovery. Whey protein is also natural as it is found in milk, so if whey is bad then milk is bad as well.

Another question about whey protein is how much should you consume. Well, for the most part, you could consume it during any time of the day. However, the most beneficial times occur right after you wake up and workout. This is because your body is sensitive and will benefit greatly from its fast absorption.

For the rest of the day, just stick to your healthy foods. Make sure and eat plenty of nuts, dairy, lean meats, vegetables and fruit. All of these serve a purpose that whey protein will not do, and without proper diet you will never see results. Remember that diet and training is greater than supplements.

If you aren't already using whey protein, look into it right away. You can get 5lb for under 30$ and that will last you at least a month. You can afford to invest in your body. It doesn't get any better than looking and feeling great.
