Making the decision to undergo a cosmetic surgery procedure is an intensely personal decision. You must weigh the medical risks and side effects that are involved against the personal benefits.
People generally consider cosmetic surgery if they are unhappy with some aspect of their appearance. But because cosmetic surgery is a medical procedure the decision should not be taken lightly.

Patients often experience a stronger sense of self confidence after a successful cosmetic surgery procedure. It is true that the way you look on the outside affects the way that you feel on the inside. Increasing your self confidence may lead to more successes in life - whether it be professional/career related or in the personal relationship area. But it is important to understand that cosmetic surgery is not the miracle panacea for fixing every problem in life. It is merely a tool to help you achieve your goals.

It is not uncommon for some prospective patients to engage the services of a psychologist to help them make the decision to undergo the surgery. You need to be true to yourself in making this decision. Are you unhappy with the way you look or are you doing this to please someone else?

Some factors to keep in mind when choosing cosmetic surgery are cost, discomfort, recovery time, and permanency.

Cosmetic surgery can be expensive, and it is usually not covered by insurance unless it is medically necessary. Whether the procedure is performed in the doctor's office or in the hospital, you will need to take some time off of work to have the procedure and also to recover. During the recovery time your appearance will be less than ideal - you may have some bruising or stitches that need to heal. And finally, the effects of plastic surgery can be permanent - which is probably your goal in the first place but still something to keep in mind.

After you have weighed all the pros and cons and made the decision to go forward, you must take the time to choose the right doctor. Check his/her references and go with an experience, Board certified doctor with a good track record. Make sure you have a good rapport with this doctor and his staff.

Take the process slow and steady and be confident with every step, this way you can be sure that you have made the best decision for yourself.
