A nice pair of high heels is one of the essential elements of any fashionable wardrobe. This is for the Vogue and stylish women. Brand names that we recognize are Gucci, Steve Madden, Manolo blahnik and Christian Louboutin.

What do these high heels really do? For a women it makes the legs appear longer, the tush will appear to be higher and the calves are going to look and appear sleeker. What they are is a symbol of sex appeal and of course feminine beauty.

The one thing that high heels are to the chiropractors and the orthopedic surgeons are a problem. These shoes are the cause of many of the womens back pains. If you are the slave to fashion, you could find yourself enslaved to have chronic back pain that are due to those 4 inch stilettos.

Women walk an average of 10,000 steps a day. If she is walking those steps in high heels, she is putting a strain on her back and putting her health at risk as well.

The high heels actually cause the body's weight to actually be centered forward, on or in the toes. Rather than distributed equally throughout the entire foot. What happens is this goes against gravity and nature. It causes stress on the muscles and on the vertebrae of the spine.

What happens when those high heeled women take off those shoes, you hear that "ahhhhh". What has happened is the relief of her whole body feeling towards being back on solid earth. The back pain has been relieved for now. It will come back to haunt her. What can happen is pain in the form of muscle spasms, soreness and of course stiffness.

The Story of High Hell Heeled High heels were originally for both men and women to seem taller and show some form of status in high society. Men wore them to keep their feet in the stirrups and women would wear them to help increase beauty. This trend continued for many centuries.

High heels for men have gone out of fashion, but high heels for women continue to be a trend. The trend is not just associated with sex, but it is one of fashion. Runway models, celebrities, and professionals still portray this high heel fashion trend.

Women have been suffering from back pain ever since the 1500"s because of high heels. Here are some things that the high heels cause:

Pain in buttocks and back of calves - Slipped Discs - Callusea - Chronic Back Pain - Hammertoe - Bunions - Hip pain - Curvature of the spine - Knee osteoarthtritis

What research has shown the the fat heel popular in the 1980's, is no less harmful than the skinny-toed and skinny heeled stiletto so popular today. What happens is that the high heeled shoes cause increased pressure that is placed on the knees.

Podiatrists and orthopedists recommend wearing a one half to three quarter inch heel. This height is better to reduce back pain than the flat heeled shoes. A small lift from the heels supports the foot, knees and back. Physicians believe that back pain would be reduced if high heels came with a warning label that read "Hazardous to your health!"
