No matter where in the world you are, from Miami to New York, Los Angeles or even in Paris, you may have noticed a trend of people wanting to look younger. Facelifts are one of the best ways to achieve this goal, and they are also some of the most popular ways to look younger.
Some people jump to the facelift as their first choice to get rid of their wrinkles, but surgery should never be the first step in looking younger. Most plastic surgeons will have you try other techniques, such as laser resurfacing and skin creams to tame those wrinkles before surgery is considered.
Some people aren't happy with the results of these simpler treatments, however, and then search out the next step in cosmetic help with aging. Injectable treatments such as Botox treatments around the brow area and Restylane treatments around the mouth lines can stave off some of aging's effects.
Sometimes, however, other treatments don't work and you just have to go for the big guns. In these cases, the surgical step known as a facelift may be your only option. For many years, patients had just one choice in facelifts - the full facelift, a lengthy procedure with a lengthy cut.
The long incision made with a full facelift, along the hairline, was used so that surgeons had a way to get to the tissues below the skin - they could then pull them taut, producing a wrinkle free face. Today's surgeons have discovered how to get the same results, only with smaller cuts and less scarring.
Full facelifts are no longer the only options for people wanting to get a facelift - if you do not have wrinkles or issues covering your entire face, you may want to try the mini facelift. The mini facelift can be used when a patient has wrinkles on just half of their face, the lower half, and/or saggy jowls.
Less surgery means that you may not even need general anesthesia for this procedure - depending on your doctor's preference. You may be able to have local anesthetic shots along with a sedative in order to have the mini facelift performed in the plastic surgeon's office.
Smaller cuts can be made to minimize scarring - the incisions will probably only be around the ear, and the underlying tissues and skin will be pulled through these little areas in order to be smoothed and kept taut. In this way, jowls will be banished and a youthful appearance will be restored.
While the mini facelift is not for everyone, it is a good option for those people who need to have work done in the lower areas of their face, but don't want to have to have an entire facelift surgery. This surgery works well for many people, but be sure to discuss the risks and results with your doctor.
