You start procrastinating when there' s a part of you that doesn't want to start doing the task you set yourself. With Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) you can get rid of that part of yourself.
Many people say that they need more motivation to get things done, which is partly true. But I would say that if you have set yourself a goal then you have all the motivation you will ever need. What's stopping you is the barrier of negative beliefs and emotions.
As a student I always used to procrastinate my essays. They felt like really hard work, I didn't think they'd be good enough, and I always had other things I wanted to do. So I'd leave them until the last minute, when I knew I'd get in trouble if I didn't do them. The fear of getting in trouble gave me the extra motivation.
That's what people say when they need they want more motivation, they think they need to fear not doing something more than they fear doing it.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) removes the negative feelings that sop you from moving forward in the first place. When I work with clients on procrastination, we identify everything that is preventing them from taking action and tap those negative beliefs and actions away.
What happens is that when you think about doing your task, your negative self-talk starts up. I'd be sitting at my desk with a blank sheet of paper in front of me, and I'd start thinking all sorts of limiting thoughts; "I don't know how to start", "I'll never get this done", "I don't understand the topic", "all my friends are elsewhere having fun".
It's not nice to have those negative thoughts in your mind, so you'll distract yourself from the task in order to avoid those feelings. And the work isn't even the real source of those negative emotions, it's your mind and the associations it has created.
With EFT you can remove those negative thoughts by releasing the negative feelings associated with them. They won't come up as often and if they do they have less of an impact because they lack that negative emotion.
Try Tapping RIGHT NOW. There are two simple things you can do that will get you started:
1. Start using EFT right now by having a look at the video Killing Procrastination which leads you through the process. If you want to have the best results it's best to use on something that you would really rather not do. After the process you'll notice it will be easier to get started on the tasks you've set yourself. If this is your first time using EFT then it might seem a bit odd, in which case you can have a look at the introductory video to get a better understanding of EFT.
2. Check out my E-Book - For a fuller understanding of how your limiting beliefs stop you achieving your goals, take a look at my Emotional Freedom Technique e-book. It includes clear instructions on how to find the negative beliefs that stop you achieving any goal you like.
It's wonderful how powerful this technique can be. For example, I used to hate tidying my house and doing the washing up. But when I tapped away all the negativity around doing those things I found I actually started to enjoy doing them.
I tried this technique on a friend when we tapped all the negative emotions and beliefs that were stopping him from doing his taxes. When we had finished and he couldn't think of any more I asked what we should work on next. But he said he'd rather just go and do his taxes.
It takes persistence, but the way you are with one thing is the way you are with all things. I found that by tapping away the feelings and beliefs that made me procrastinate doing the washing up, tidying my room, and my taxes, I pretty much tapped away the feelings that made me procrastinate doing anything.
With a bit of practice you will have the same awesome results with Emotional Freedom Technique as I have.
