Water is vital to our wellbeing and without it we simply would not survive. The main component of our body is water with the liver being about 90% water and our brain about 74%. It is often stated that we do not drink enough water as the body needs around 64 fl oz or more to function correctly and much depends on how active we are. The water we drink should be free from organic matter found in many water supplies around the world. In most places all drinking water is drawn from it's source and passed through a series of massive water filters before being pumped into the homes for our use.

Most of planet earth is covered by water but there are many regions that suffer a lack of it. In these areas the water that is available is often polluted and infected with bacteria and other organisms. In such places water filters are often the only way in which a person can obtain water clean enough to drink. However it is both surprising and upsetting that there are still a great many places that suffer from the lack of adequate water filtering equipment.

In many modern parts of the world there are strict government and local laws governing what should or should not be included in drinking water supplies. Strict rules and regulations are used in an attempt to ensure that our drinking water is perfectly safe drink. However our water often contains very small amounts (called trace elements) of substances which are incredibly harmful if ingested in larger amounts. As more and more people become aware of this they increasingly use water filters to ensure all substances, even those that have been added to the water, are removed completely.

Aluminum is often found in drinking water in varying amounts. Aluminum is a highly dangerous substance which has been associated with such things as Alzheimer's disease. Although much evidence is rather circumstantial than direct many folk are afraid of ingesting it in even the smallest amounts.

Fluoride is another substance which can be very dangerous to the human body but it is commonly added to water. Young babies should not be exposed to fluoride and many dental products which contain it also carry strong health warnings about ingesting their product.

With so many dangerous substances either in the water or added to it, is it any wonder that water filters are now used extensively around the globe. Even where the water supply is considered very safe many people just do not want to take any risks in the slightest so they buy a water filter if only for their drinking water.

There are various types of water filter available for use in the home. The simplest and most affordable is the jug filter which usually filters through removable filter cartridges which need to be replaced regularly. Because these filters are capable of filtering huge amounts of water the cost is minimal when compared to bottled water. More expensive water filters, which treat all the water in the house, are available which will be fitted somewhere between your house and your connection to the main water supply and other, smaller systems, are installed under the sink to provide an extra, drinking water only, tap.

Of course there are many advantages to using a water filter and we have only listed two of the great many chemicals which these amazing gadgets can remove. One of the most enjoyable aspects of using a water filter is the fact that you will immediately notice how much better the water tastes, not only on it's own but even in hot drinks. You will eventually become used to the lovely new flavor but whenever you taste unfiltered water again you will be horrified at how disgusting it is and you will wonder why you ever drank it in the first place.
