With improving living standards and higher disposable income, this has resulted in a new type of self made disease. This disease is call obesity or otherwise known as "rich man" disease. Why? ...Have you ever seen a poor beggar suffering from obesity? You will really be hard pressed to find one on the streets. Because of changes in our lifestyles, the foods that we take today are no longer healthy. With pressure like time constraints, people seem to spend more time at restaurants rather than at home. With what is normally served at restaurant, it shouldn't be a surprise that a person will gain weight quickly.

When that happens, you will probably hear lots of advices to lose weight for a healthy life. If you were to look carefully at those "advices", you will find that weight loss does not equal good health. Try to test this myth by going to professional nutritionist or doctors, they will advice you instead to lose Fat and NOT weight.

When you consider that your body weight is comprised of not just fat but also valuable tissues, muscles, water content, bones, etc., you will realize why 'weight loss' is a misleading word. Fat loss should be a more appropriate term, but unfortunately very few are aware of this difference!

If you set yourself with the goal of losing weight instead of fat, you can lead yourself to danger! If you don't know what you are doing you can sabotage your health in a big way!

With so many ways to lose weight quickly, how would you know which is the correct method? To be more aware what is good and bad, let us take and example of a starving yourself to lose weight. You might lose some weight initially, but are you losing the right kind of weight? You might find that at the end of the day that you didn't lose a single gram of fat.

By fasting or starving yourself, you cut off a supply of calories for your body. So what happen next is that, your body will look for STORED carbs, then protein & then muscles tissues. After all your muscles tissue has been burned away as an alternative sources of energy will then your body turn to fat that is stored in your body.

As I had explained, when you starve yourself to lose weight, what you will lose is your muscles first and not the fat. This is because your body find it harder to convert fat to energy as compared to muscles. There is also another reason why by starving you will not lose the fat in your body.

After starving yourself for a few days, you will definitely feel extremely hungry. The Hunger pangs that you feel can indeed be overpowering making you gorge on foods. When that happens, you are setting up your body for another mega dose of fat deposits in your body. With less muscles left already in your body, your metabolism rate will be at its lowest point. As such, any unburnt calories will be converted and deposited as fat in your body. Furthermore, with exercising, your will not be able to regain your muscles mass to its previous level.

Therefore, to achieve fat loss, you will need to eat healthy foods & exercises regularly as well. So choose program which is designed to help you to lose your body fat and not just your body weight.
