With the highlight these days on healthier living, the drive in our personal lifestyle is focused on staying in shape, eating a proper diet and keeping fit and with this in mind the question we may ask ourselves may be "why would I need life insurance?"
Well the truth is that none of us can ever truly know what life is going to throw at us. You can't predict what's round the corner or over the next hill in life any more than you can on the open road. You wouldn't consider not insuring your car, and if it gets damaged beyond repair you simply get the insurance company to pay out and go get a new one. Not the case with your own life though.
Of course a life insurance policy isn't going to provide you with a new life! It will, however, insure that your family and loved ones can go on living their lives comfortably after you have gone. Should the unexpected happen to you, at least you know that the people you love and work hard every day to provide for are able to go on with one less thing to worry about.
Now while the topic of conversation is not one that many like to dwell on, it is your responsibility to yourself and your loved ones that you give it some thought. The loss of a loved one is difficult enough to deal with. On top of things like funeral arrangements and such there is the emotional upheaval from which it takes longer to recover. You would not want to add to this the financial upheaval of how to meet the bills and the mortgage and the day to day costs of running a household which your family could and would very well face with the absence of your regular wage.
Even if you are one of the lucky ones that are able to have cash in the bank, it won't take long for that nest egg to dwindle to zero under the right conditions. And that, is one of the main reasons that a level headed adult looks into life insurance when they are still healthy and ahead of the game.
Thinking of death, especially when you are a young couple or family, is not something that most people want to do, but it IS something that should actually be on a high priority list of things to do as soon as possible in your adult life, and especially if you are starting that life with another person or persons who are or may become dependent on you.
The Webster's Dictionary defines an Emergency as a "Sudden occurrence demanding quick action." The key word there is SUDDEN. You don't wake up in the morning thinking, that you just know that you are going to be involved in a fatal car crash on the way home from work that night. Let's be realistic, if you knew that, you would call in sick and stay home. Emergencies come at you fast and you usually have no choice in the matter but to react as your instincts tell you and hope for the best Well, the best reaction to life's big emergencies, especially with the financial obligations that pile up in life, its to cover yourself with a good life insurance policy.
The old sporting adage goes that the best form of offence is defense. Nowhere could this be more true than when considering life insurance. Through defending yourself with a suitable policy you are protecting your family against the unpredictability of the future and ensuring that they can progress through whatever the future holds.
So far in this article we have been mainly talking about people with families, mortgages, general responsibilities. So what about those of you reading this who are single and restriction free? You have no spouse to think of yet, no children, you live in rented accommodation, you drive a moped which you own outright and your only commitments are the rent and your bills each month. Life insurance may seem a world away to you. It harks back to the love you feel for your family. If you die unexpectedly, do you want your family to have to find your next month's rent and pay your outstanding bills, or do you want them to be free to mourn the responsible child whom they have so tragically lost?
The choice of life insurance is down to the individual and there are no rules to say that you must get a policy. But if you take a bit of time to consider the possible effects of your death on others you will find that the choice is not a difficult one and that your nearest and dearest will be given the financial help they need should something happen to you.
