Never Thought I Would Be Entering The Job Market Again | Culture and Society

I had been laid off from the Chrysler plant for virtually 3 months and I wasn't certain what to do about my unemployment condition. The girl at the job service office said I needed to show proof I have applied to companies around the area but the truth is, after some time you start to run out of options.

Every day, I checked the help wanted section and I oftentimes wondered if most of the jobs are even legitimate. One ad makes it into the area every single Sunday and it sounds really suspicious. Another place has entered their opening for the last 4 weeks, why would any company who had a good job to offer still be looking after all that time?

Last month, I contacted every company and plant I thought could use my abilities and filled out an application. I haven't heard back from any of them. I even contacted a few places to check on the status of my application.

All but one of the companies said, "We have your application on line." The woman at the one company that did not say that said they were no longer hiring. Well, isn't that just convenient. I lately started hunting online for work.

There's nothing greater than flipping on the HDTV, laying on the couch and surfing the net for jobs. I have located a few sites that sound promising and I can even apply on the computer itself. Even having the HDTV on helps me find jobs. I was taking a break from job searching one day and was watching the HD channels.

To my delight, the Discovery HD channel had a special on a company I never thought of looking into for work. It was the cable company! I could definitely do that type of work with only slight training. I immediately called the company where I happen to get my HD service from anyway and asked about job opportunities.

The lady told me I would have to go to the office. They also told me they are usually always hunting for new faces. They gave me the directions and I was out the door as soon as I flipped the HDTV off and made myself presentable.

I arrived at the headquarters, filled out the paperwork, and was given an interview right away. I begin my new position in 3 days setting up HD service on HDTVs around my neighborhood. How perfect!
