We all see the prices rising for gas and it has been rising steadily over recent years but in recent months it has gotten ridiculous. We all know that the cost of things goes up over time but recent rises have really hurt us all where it hurts most, in our pockets. We are all looking for ways to save money on buying gas but for most people all they can see is that they need their cars and have to pay whatever it takes.

Is there anything that we can do about this? That is the question everybody wants answered so I will try to answer that here. We cannot change the price of oil. Maybe the politicians can do something but for now we are on our own. There are ways to use less gas in the way we drive and the type of vehicles we drive or we can make our own cars and trucks run further on what gas we have.

The first choice is the simplest. You just have to use your car less often. You can do this by combining trips and instead of driving to a different store each time you go out, go to all of them in one round trip. Go shopping every other day instead of every day. Travel with your neighbors and that way you both can save on gas.

There are ways of driving that use less gas. If you tend to drive with your foot pressed hard on the accelerator or hard on the brakes you are wasting fuel and to get the best gas mileage you should learn how to drive in a more gentle fashion. Planning ahead is the secret to this and if you see the traffic slowing ahead of you start easing off the throttle and then brake gently. Ideally you can plan ahead so well you will need to stop less often and since most gas is used accelerating you could save quite a lot of gas this way.

We can also be more economical by driving smaller and more efficient cars, we can keep our cars serviced more often so they run at optimum efficiency. Another possibility is to fit some gas saving or energy efficient devices to help our cars use less gas.

These gas saving devices have been mocked over the years. Car companies and the oil industry have been quick to dismiss them. The trouble is that these organizations have a vested interest and the oil companies wanted us to use more gas while the car companies didn't want to look like they were not bothered about our cars fuel consumption.

There may be some devices that made no sense back in the day when oil and gas was cheap but now gas is so expensive they may make a lot more sense. Just a saving of a mile or two per gallon would be a very valuable saving in gas costs for many people.

The scientists are saying that we will all be using hydrogen for our gas supplies in years to come but that seems to be a way off yet. There are not many hydrogen gas stations and there are only a handful of hydrogen cars running around on our roads as test vehicles. We are an inventive nation and there are lots of people who have been working on this problem in their garages and workshops and they have developed ways to generate hydrogen and use it to save on gas costs in the cars we already have and drive every day.

Enthusiasts working away in their garages and workshops have come up with systems that are easily built from regular parts available at local hardware stores and can be put together in a few hours. They explain how to build these kits and fit them to your car and you could be reducing your gas usage in next to no time all thanks to a simple guide you can get online.
