Email Marketing - All You Need to Know

A method of marketing is direct marketing that uses e-mail as a method of communication. This deals with a message that is commercial or fund raising aimed at a group of people. Every electronic mail that is being sent to customers, potential or current, is said to be email marketing. Sending an electronic mail with intentions of getting customer loyalty, for increasing the number of new customers, continuing business, trying to get old customers to purchase and addition of ads that various firms wish to send across to the customers is termed as email marketing.

Companies find it convenient to market through electronic mails. This is because it has its own advantages. Direct mails and printed newsletter are proven to be much more expensive than sending a mail. Mailing them also ensures distributing information to a huge number of people at low costs. Many of the people check their mail on an every day basis. Electronic mails take hardly any time to arrive since they are sent. Moreover, it is paper free.

It also has its own drawbacks. The biggest of these kinds of drawbacks is spam. A huge number of companies send unsolicited mails in bulk in the name of legal marketing. As a result of this, these mails are sometimes thought of as spam and deleted before it is read. It is quite hard to distinguish between the two. With spam filter even a few legitimate e-mails are being deleted automatically without our knowledge and hence we do not get even the genuine mails that need to reach us.

Companies that advertise through mails need to meet the terms of spam laws. This is needed as we do not want genuine mails to get deleted before it reaches us. Despite this a few companies get black listed. This is mainly because it if found by the internet administers that spam is being sent by these companies.

The CAN-SPAM act was passed in 2003 wherein each and every marketer wanting to market through electronic mail should use software that is ok with the act. A return address, allowing options of unsubscribing at one go and also a physical address are some things that are a must.

Opt in email has come in to beat the disadvantages of electronic mail marketing. This means that advertisements are sent only after the recipient allows it to reach them. For example, only when the customers have opted to receive letters from the company during buying any materials they get their newsletters regarding upcoming events and new products.

Email marketing software has been developed to make opt in marketing much easier. This is an application that lets you send mails in bulk to the target recipients. This can send promotional newsletters and materials to many subscribers. Very often these are used to send spam.

Importing customer lists, keeping track when an ad is opened and to subscribe automatically and also handling bounce backs is made easier by this software. Business advertisements are made to look more professional by the use of this software.
