Do you suffer from dry itchy skin? If so, you know what it's like for your skin to feel too tight. You might also have dry, rough patches on your face, along with flaking, peeling or scaling in some areas.

Dry itchy skin isn't just uncomfortable. It also makes you more prone to developing those fine lines and wrinkles most of us would like to avoid. Fortunately, there are things you can do to battle dryness and itching.

Moisturize

The best way to fight dryness is to moisturize. Not only will using a good moisturizer hydrate you skin, it will also keep moisture from escaping. You should buy a moisturizer made for those with dry skin, and use it daily. Make sure you apply it soon after you have washed your face, to lock in even more moisture.

Cold weather can also dehydrate the skin. So, if you are going out on a cold day, apply extra moisturizer. It will act as protection against the harsh elements.

Avoid Water Whenever Possible

Going for long swims won't do your skin any favors. In fact, it will rob your skin of oils. However, if you love to swim, make sure and use extra moisturizer when you get out of the pool.

Also, washing your face more than once a day might be too drying for you. Maybe you were taught you should wash at least twice a day, in the morning and before you go to bed at night. But if your skin is itchy and dry, washing once a day will be enough.

Use the Right Soap or Cleanser

Using a soap or cleanser that is too harsh could be drying your skin out. And using one that contains the wrong ingredients could be causing some of your itching. If your face feels dry and tight after you wash it, you are using the wrong soap or cleanser.

If your skin is dry, use a mild and gentle soap or cleanser that is made for dry skin. You should also use products that have "hypoallergenic" on the label.

Buy a Humidifier

Hot, dry air (whether from central heating, or because of natural weather conditions) can dry out your skin, and making it feel more itchy than ever.

Using a humidifier will add moisture to the air in your home. Place the humidifier in the rooms where you spend the most time For example, put it in your living room during the day, and then move it into your bedroom at night.

Keeping your dry itchy skin hydrated will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It will also help to make your skin more soft and youthful.
